Besiktas star Oghuzan Ozyakup has turned down the chance to head to Serie A this summer because he would prefer a move to England. The former Arsenal midfielder has been linked with a move to West Ham United in recent months after playing under Slaven Bilic in Turkey.
TMW have claimed Ozyakup has turned down the chance to sign for Lazio after being approached by the Serie A side. It’s been revealed the Turkish international would prefer a move to the Premier League, and has in the past spoken about his desire to return to England, following his brief spell with Arsenal. Ozyakup has been valued in the region of €15m by Besiktas, and is contracted to the Turkish side until 2018.
Bilic is an admirer of Ozyakup, and the West Ham coach could look to move in on the player when the transfer window opens. A regular in Bilic’s squad, Ozyakup's featured in forty-two of Besiktas’ games during the Croatian’s last season in Turkey.
Born in Holland, Ozyakup spent three years in the Arsenal youth academy after arriving from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2008. Ozyakup won the FA Youth Cup with Arsenal, and the Premier Academy League on two occasions during his time in England. The youngster didn’t make an appearance in the Premier League, but featured in two League Cup games for the North London side.
