Could it be that's what you're looking forwards to?
This is not a relegation team. To put it in perspective, of the 9 matches we've played 6 have been against the teams now occupying positions 1-6 in the table. And we beat 2 of them. We're on course for a reasonably good season.
ah come on now, losing two nil to Everton at home is a poor result.
Too many players not hitting form, and i am worried as well. If Benteke hits a slump, we may well be in big trouble.
The next few games are very important and points need to be gained from them. We have played the big boys and at times this season we have been decent.
The game today was frustrating we had chances to score but for whatever reason we didn't and they scored their chances which is the worst combination. Benteke just coming back from injury was due a game like the one he had once he has a few more minutes under his belt we will look much better.
Gabby and Weimann where very poor they need to do more with and with out the ball too many times today they where running into players.
The goals we conceded today where joke no one put a challenge in.
Tonev at times looked decent once he settles down I think we could have a decent player.
Sylla has to start the next game against West Ham for Westwood his presence in the middle will be needed at Upton Park.
We also play the Baggies soon and I don't want to loose to those clowns we need points from the Hammers and Cardiff.
For me, it is our lack of quality and crude style of play that is the problem. I predicted 13th before the season started and I think that's about where we will finish BUT I'm very unhappy with the way we're playing.
But three games without a goal and only 6 in 8 games isn't good enough. The home record is embarrassing too.
It's not a disaster no, but can anyone really be happy with the way we're playing? Nobody who shells out hard earned cash anyway!
Relegation was OTT I admit. I am just bitterly disappointed with our home form. If we go on failing to win matches at home this season then things could get well dicey again, and NO I don't want that: I am a Villan. I don't expect to be top 6 but I think 7th to 10th is a fair expectation. I take the point we have been playing the top teams but when we play away teams now know how we play and if the away form dips then... I think we'll be ok and finish mid table if we sort the home form out.
surely we should be as good as WBA and Southampton? Or is that expecting too much?
WBA - yes, we/Villa should want to be better than them and not just because they are local rivals. Southampton have been excellent - so far - will they maintain it? I want 10th or above and do not have excessive expectations at all, as we are a work in progress. The home form worries me but we will play lower sides soon and we need points and wins from those matches.
WBA and Southampton? Yep, I think it's a reasonable expection that we are at least as good as them. With the qualification that Southampton are the surprise package this season and are on a very decent run. But if we played them tomorrow I'd expect it to be close with the result going either way.
Everton are better than either, and yesterday it was an evenly balanced match. Yes we lost it, late on, but it could have gone in our favour. In previous matches it was our midfield which looked weak; yesterday they were better but the forwards weren't on song. Benteke is obviously not back to his usual sharpness yet, and Gabby and Andi aren't playing at their best. I'm glad Tonev had a go, and there's Helenius waiting in the wings. What we need is for our established forwards to click and the new ones to come up to speed. This is still a squad in transition; the basics are looking far better than last year, we need more style and flair. I'm optimistic; I think it will come. And I still reckon we're looking at around 9th this season.
McParland, if we played Southampton tomorrow, we would hardly even get a shot on target, let alone score - and that is pretty sad in my opinion, especially given the forward line at our disposal.
If you added up (even conservative estimates of) the value of our available forward players (Benteke, Gabby, Weimann, Tonev, Kozak, Albrighton and Bowery) (40 million plus!!) - surely we should be averaging more than 6 goals in eight games? Surely?
There is something amiss somewhere - and it has to change soon.
Granted we're not doing our best. I think Lambert set us up well for our difficult opening three matches; I half expected 0 points not 3, and in the two we lost we weren't at all overrun. Think we've gone off the boil since, or if not off the boil then more patchy performances. Norwich and Man C were good results, Hull almost inevitable given Bruce knowing how to park the bus. Both games against Spurs were disappointing and Newcastle really disappointing. Everton would have been OK if we'd had that bit more of an edge in attack.
I don't think the internationals have helped at all; we need to get some momentum. It's the same for other teams, but we always seem to slump after an international break. We've got 4 games coming up where we really need to sort things out. We can win all those matches. It's an opportunity to get back consistency. Two wins and two draws would do me fine.
