On Tuesday, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Roma are close to signing Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and that could jeopardise the future of Wojciech Szczesny at the club. Alisson's deal looks pretty done, and the player is set to go through his medical checks this week.
Arsenal goalkeeper Szczesny is on loan, at the Serie A club, and Gazzetta say AS Roma boss Luciano Spalletti is very fond of Szczesny, and doesn't want to let him go. That should have led Roma to agreeing a deal for Szczesny, but Arsenal's demands have scuppered things.
Arsenal have asked AS Roma to pay €20m for Szczesny, which is simply too much for the Italian side. Gazzetta reckon AS Roma might be interested in keeping Szczesny on loan for another season, but would want an option to buy him at the end of his loan spell, and want that amount to be less than €20m.
Alisson has been promised a starting spot at AS Roma, but Gazzetta don't rule out the possibility of them keeping both Alisson and Szczesny at the club next season. This one could turn into something of a mess.
