Arsenal given Gundogan hope as he remains coy, Dortmund will sell rather than lose for free

Ilkay Gundogan is again the man of the moment. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is returning to fitness and has also seen his need to the German national team upped by the recent knee injury to Sami Khedira. Once Gundogan is back to his best he should slot into the national side and there's no reason why he can't shine at next year's World Cup.

He's been speaking in Germany and Kicker have picked up his quotes, whilst the majority of it is about him being impatient and hating having time out injured, Kicker think there's the possibility of a move growing in the background.

The German magazine say that Dortmund have made a decision to sell Gundogan next summer if they can't get him to renew his current deal. They will not let him leave the club on a free transfer if they can prevent it. Gundogan hasn't been keen to discuss a renewal recently and whilst he's put that down to his injury, Kicker make it sound like an exit is definitely on the cards.

At the end of his interview he said "Dortmund ist mein erster Ansprechpartner," that translates to him saying that Dortmund is his first point of contact and we got two native German speakers to have a look and give us their opinion on what it really means because the English translation doesn't convey any real meaning.

Gundogan means that he'll give Dortmund every chance to renew his current deal but leaves the door open for other offers. It would not be exaggerating to say that in Germany there's a growing feeling he could be off. Nearly every English newspaper (Daily Star, Express, Mail, Mirror, Guardian) have linked the midfielder with a possible move to Arsenal but it's what local Dortmund newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten said last August which may give more insight. They claimed that Arsenal interest being reported in England wasn't helping Dortmund in their mission to renew Gundogan's deal and said that he and his father were looking for a deal which would reflect his status.

Moves for Gundogan are not the hopeless quest which they perhaps should be.
