This week's edition of German magazine SportBild is out and that means Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan reports. It is the latter which are related to Arsenal and it'll be no surprise to anyone that Jurgen Klopp announcing he'll be leaving Dortmund in the summer has given a boost to the idea of a player exodus. Hummels and Gundogan are just two of several mentioned, with even players like 'flop' Shinji Kagawa having some doubt cast on their future.
SportBild say that Arsenal, and indeed Manchester City, are in 'concrete discussions' for Gundogan and that both clubs are very keen on the player. A transfer is likely because right now Gundogan has shown little interest in extending his current contract, which runs out in June 2016. Last time Gundogan renewed, just last year, he extended his deal by just one year which is how Dortmund have ended up in this situation.
Arsenal appear to have got to 'concrete discussions' for Gundogan pretty quickly. Just over a week ago, the other German football magazine Kicker said Arsenal 'had an eye' on Gundogan but there was no talk of bids being made or discussions taking place.
Gundogan to Arsenal links are almost certainly going to appear until the player either signs for someone else or finally commits his long term future to Dortmund. There had been claims in Bild that some of Europe's biggest clubs weren't so keen on the idea of a Gundogan transfer until he'd proven his return from fitness over a full season or more. Klopp's impending exit has created something of giddiness around Dortmund reporting and that again makes it hard to work out what may be true and what is simply a reflection of the situation and previous rumours.
