Villa have had an amazing run of five games where they've simply got nowhere near as many points as they've deserved.
SWANSEA (2-2) :
Swans started like a whirlwind. Villa showed great resilience to lead 2-1 at The Liberty. Only for a sickening equaliser deep, deep into stoppage time.
POINTS SHOULD HAVE WON 3 - POINTS WON 1
SOUTHAMPTON (0-1)
Villa battered the Saints but couldn't score. An inspired performance by Boruc in the Southampton goal and a cheating dive by Rodriguez, to win a penalty, bagged a crucial and undeserved three points for the Saints, in this huge six-pointer.
POINTS SHOULD HAVE WON 3 - POINTS WON 0
ALBION (2-2)
Villa 2-0 up against the Tesco scum and playing beautifully. Villa miss a gfolden chance to go 3-0 up before, you guessed it, the Boggies earn a late point through Odemwingie.
POINTS SHOULD HAVE WON 3 - POINTS WON 1
NEWCASTLE (1-2)
Toon played wonderfully and Villa awful in the first half so 0-2 at half time. Second half full of spirit and fight. Did enough to earn a point but just couldn't.
POINTS SHOULD HAVE WON 1 - POINTS WON 0
EVERTON (3-3)
A vibrant performance at the home of the Champions League challengers, with Villa going into a fully deserved 3-1 lead. But, of course, another sickening equaliser deep into stoppage time and another deflating day for Villa.
POINTS SHOULD HAVE WON 3 - POINTS WON 1
So, that's 3 points from 5 games for Villa, when it should have been 13. That's an incredible 10 points less than what it should have been. In the meantime, Reading, Wigan, Newcastle, Southampton and QPR have discovered how to pick up points.
To be honest, if you look at the table, we are now cut adrift. I don't know whether to be encouraged by the last five games or depressed by them. But we have no form, no confidence, no momentum, no experience and it seems, no luck. Funny thing is, I think if we can stop up, we might have a very exciting Premiership team next year.
Are the Gods with us though?

Permalink Reply by The Spirit of Bosco Jankovic on February 3, 2013 at 9:44 It is funny Brad, I feel much better today (and I did before yesterdays game with Everton) The fact that we bought 2 players in albeit that I hadn't heard of them. Just the fact that we bought somebody made me feel better and I trust Lamberts judgement. If you had offered me a point before the Everton Game I would have bitten off your hand. Noe, yes, it does feel like a loss, but my logical brain is telling me it was a good point AND a good performance. I think we can turn things around, but we MUST BEAT West Ham. Anything less than a win and we are down.
Permalink Reply by McParlandTheGreat on February 3, 2013 at 11:38 Luck's a critical factor in football, that's what makes it fascinating. You could also say that Swans were unlucky not to be leading before we scored, and although we almost nicked a win then 2-2 was a fair result, in a match we could also easily have lost. Against Southampton luck was indeed against us, but it happens. I think on the day 2-2 at Baggies was a fair result. All those teams were in a good run of form, except Newcastle, so again they weren't going to be easy targets. Against Newcastle I think we had a hangover from the cup defeats; hopefully that's the last hangover of the season.
I'm not unhappy with any of those results, except Newcastle, which was a critical match and we should have done better; Southampton was the sort of unfair result you can't do anything about, and which you get from time to time. Yesterday the point was a bonus in a match we were expected to lose, and it should help with confidence in the future. I don't think we're cut adrift; my test is where are we if we gain a win over those above, and the answer is out of the bottom 3. QPR is the only team adrift.
The only thing which worries me is that we're playing better away from home than at home. We need to do something about that. There are a number of possibilities for wins coming up, and half of those are at home. It's going to be very tight; the 2 points we dropped yesterday would have helped enormously, but we can do it. In our current position we're a bit dependent on other teams not performing; we need a win when they don't.

Its easy to look on the black side, and I have been sorely tempted in the past weeks, but you have helped keep me rational (well, reasonably rational) :)
Cheers mate

Permalink Reply by McParlandTheGreat on February 3, 2013 at 15:26 OK, but in spite of that they're still comfortably in the top half of the table, probably their best season for a very long time, and they did have the incentive of a home game in a derby. On paper they were the favourites to win.
Permalink Reply by Andy Grays Charisma Coach on February 3, 2013 at 18:25 Things appear to have gone downhill after Liverpool?
Was a great win and good goals but if they had taken their early chances that day we could have lost 4 or 5 nil.
We are lively upfront, poor in midfield and because of that shaky in defence.
Newcastle apart recently the end of the game has been like the alamo and we have caved in.
Wins against the Happy Hammers QPR and Fulham at home are essential, Sunderland could be iffy but again poss win. Away we have Norwich Stoke and Reading all potentially winable but unlikely.
Rest of the fixtures look beyond us but we may still get points.
Other teams at the bottom showing fight to the end recently, we are winning games and then throwing them away.
Still live in hope but next Sunday the start of a real battle and we have to be up for it.

I hope anyway.
Permalink Reply by McParlandTheGreat on February 4, 2013 at 0:40 I think we have; we'll probably not win the ones we should and win the ones we shouldn't!
I think the lads feel the pressure at home more. And being at home means the onus is on us to attack, which can leave us vulnerable to the counter-attack. Solving the home issue could be critical.
I'm aiming for us beating QPR, Fulham, Norwich and Reading. West Ham is one of those I've got down as at least a draw. Don't west Ham have a certain Welsh international in defence? Might help. Or he'll do one of his rare scoring feats.
