Barcelona are all tried out with Toni Sanabria and expecting an exit as soon as January, with clubs able to activate his €3m release clause. Arsenal have made the largest financial offer to the player and AS Roma are waiting to snap him up if that avenue leads to a dead end.
The Catalan club have been trying to organise a meeting with Sanabria and his agents for a final showdown, they want the player to tell them himself that he wishes to leave the club, rather than try and hide behind agents and clauses. Barcelona have been trying to arrange this meeting for a couple of weeks and had hoped it would take place last week, with the club's local media saying on Wednesday that an announcement on the player's future could be expected within hours.
However, Sanabria and his agents have been dodging the club which has left Barcelona free to make the only conclusion they think is obvious... that he's planning to leave the club as soon as possible. It's not the most clean cut situation, Sanabria's father had said his son wanted to succeed with Barcelona, whilst his agent Raul Verdu was telling anyone who'd listen that a transfer was the most likely outcome.
The Paraguayan striker, aged just 17, made his debut for Barcelona's B team last week and the club believe a transfer would have less to do with playing time than it would money. Sanabria cannot expect a first team berth, even on the bench and claims otherwise are premature. Barcelona are not prepared to break their structure of payment to young players to keep Sanabria so will not be blackmailed by the player and it's put them in a difficult situation.
They'd like to keep him but he's leading them a merry dance and there's only so far they can go, with efforts now at the end of the road according to Saturday's edition of Sport. The Catalan newspaper say it's Sanarbia pushing the move and insisting on a way out, although they still haven't been able to thrash it out with him.
There remains the possibility Sanabria is using reported Arsenal interested to leverage as much money out of Barcelona as possible, but he's playing a dangerous game if so and opinion among Barcelona fans is already turning against him.
