Arsenal fans will know this situation well, the Catalan press home in on a player they think their beloved Barcelona are looking to sign and start the process of letting them know how much they're wanted in Catalonia.
Both the main Catalan sport outlets - Mundo Deportivo and Sport - today have stories about how wonderful Alex Song is and how he really wants to move to Barcelona. Mundo take the route of flattery and their piece detailing his qualities makes him sound like a cross between Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane but with the temperament of a saint and the patience of an angel.
Sport.es use the 'he wants to join Barca' tactic and say that Arsene Wenger is aware his midfielder is very keen on making the move to La Liga. They say both clubs know the player's desire to move and take what he sees as a big step forward in his career, it's claimed that this is what is driving the deal forward.
More worryingly Sport compare the situation to that of Cesc Fabregas and say that personal terms have already been agreed between Song and Barcelona and it's just a case of Arsenal accepting a reasonable offer from Barcelona.
The article is enough to anger even the most mild mannered Arsenal fan and goes on to say that Song and Barcelona are aware it may take weeks to get what they want but that they'll hold out to make the transfer possible.
That both Catalan outlets are engaged in these articles suggests involvement from elsewhere and whether Barcelona see themselves as 'More than a club' or somehow classier than many rivals, the actual reality is different. Transfer window after transfer window they use the press to do their bidding for them and get the price of players down as much as possible, with no respect shown to the club where the footballer in question currently plays.
