This one has come something from the blue. Chelsea are one of a number of clubs to be linked with a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke in recent years. The Spanish international is seen as hugely important to Atletico both now and in the future, the club see little point selling him right now because, firstly, they want him to stay and, secondly, his value isn't likely to be going down so they may as well continue to enjoy his football.
Spanish newspaper Marca on Friday say that many clubs have expressed an interest in Koke this summer, but that some clubs have actually gone through with that interest and tried to sign the player. Marca say that mega bids of up to €65m have been made this summer for the player.
Two teams named as making bids for Koke this summer are Chelsea and Bayern Munich, although Marca say there's others too. Atletico Madrid are said to have fought off all approaches and the player isn't interested in moving this summer anyway, especially with Euro 2016 on the horizon.
The Chelsea claim comes as something of a surprise, the club don't really need him but he would be a luxury. Perhaps Marca are bending the truth to suit their 'Atletico reject many bids' narrative. Koke's name is now once again right back in the rumour mill.
