Crystal Palace apparently wanting to buy a striker during the January transfer window has inevitably seen them linked to almost every striker conceivably available to them, and some which are not. Agents and clubs who wish to up the profile of strikers will know they're able to suggest crystal Palace interest to the media and it will make a little sense, so the barrage of reports is almost entirely nonsense.
However, there will be some truth somewhere and it's difficult to work out which stories are genuine and which are people jumping on the Crystal-Palace-want-a-striker-bandwagon. Yesterday we covered claims from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport that Crystal Palace wanted to sign 6ft 3in Khouma Babacar from Fiorentina, and had made an offer along with Sunderland.
On Tuesday Italy's Calciomercato say Palace's offer has been 'returned to sender, address apparently known. Calciomercato say Fiorentina have no intention of selling their young 'jewell', and so Crystal Palace will have to look elsewhere.
It's less than 2 weeks into the transfer window, and we're already at the 'believe nothing' stage.
