The Bilbao press are full of Aymeric Laporte to Manchester City on Monday, with it being claimed the club are set to meet his €50m buyout clause, despite Laporte suffering a serious injury. Regional newspaper El Correo say Manchester City have informed the Basque club of their intentions, probably to give them time to work out how to spend the money.
It's difficult for Athletic because they have a very reduced pool of options, only taken on players born in the Basque region, or those with very strong family ties to the area and who were brought up there.
El Correo have taken a look at who the €50m could be spent on, and it's no surprise to see Ander Herrera. The Basque newspaper say Manchester United have 'subtly placed' the player in the shop window. It's stated the Premier League club aren't trying to kick the €36m out, but they believe it may be best for both parties if he moves on.
Herrera retains a 'beautiful memory' at Athletic and hasn't ruined his reputation with the club, and it's a possible route to think about. Taking Herrera back would, at least in some part, make up for selling Laporte.
