Martin Skrtel has been linked with a move to Napoli ever since Rafa Benitez became the manager there. It's well known in Italy that Benitez wants to strengthen the Napoli defence and Skrtel seemed to be an obvious choice for the media there.
Skrtel slightly encouraged exit rumours himself just over a year ago. In February after Liverpool's match against his former club Zenit he was asked if he missed playing for the club and said "Of course, because I had a very good year here."
In the same month there were reports of a fall-out with Brendan Rodgers and Skrtel was asked by a Slovak publication if a transfer was possible "Maybe after the season we'll go to that area, but now we are not. I would not start unnecessary conflicts, the success of the team comes first."
Back then the defender was in and out of Rodgers' team which encouraged speculation, but now he's a regular starter and has been an important part of the club's success this season.
His agent Karol Csonto has spoken to Calciomercato in Italy about the Napoli rumours and rubbished them "What I can say is that Martin Skrtel will not go to Napoli... Skrtel will remain at Liverpool."
The agent sounded slightly angered by the questions and said he'd only read about Napoli interest, and that nothing had actually happened with regard to it. This should stop the Skrtel to Napoli rumours, but it probably won't.
