Hugo Lloris thinks Lisandro almost signed for Spurs and wishes he had

Hugo Lloris can't shut up this week. It's hard to open a French sport section or football magazine and not find an interview with the Tottenham goalkeeper. This is obviously because his current club face his old team Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday and it's given Lloris a chance to speak to the French press at length and he's taken it with both his huge hands.

Most of the stuff he's said is about how happy he now is at Tottenham after his early difficulties and how well he's settled in. It's all positive about his present situation and he's clearly enjoying the season the London club are having.

However, journalists will always try and get something a little more juicy and L'Equipe today asked him about Tottenham and Lisandro Lopez. The same newspaper had said on Sunday that Spurs offered just 6m for the forward at the end of the January transfer window and that's an offer which Lyon obviously laughed out of town  Lloris recognises what his former team mate could have brought to Tottenham and when asked about the player he said:

"Apparently, he almost came to Tottenham... (Smiles) He's a great player, charismatic, gives Lyon an enormous amount. This is a necessary player, someone who works for the team, who is decisive and wins matches."

Lloris went on to say that Lisandro Lopez is so useful because he can play right upfront, just behind the striker or even out wide. He's clearly fond of his former team mate and says that the player is a good man who deserves the best, he's clearly a little disappointed that the move didn't happen.

Tottenham have had arguments with Lyon's president Jean-Michel Aulas over the transfer of Lloris and perhaps Lisandro Lopez too, but the goalkeeper has only got good things to say about his former boss:

"I am fortunate to have always had a good relationship with him. The president loves his players, protects, does everything possible to keep them in the best condition.

"I have great respect for the man, the president and everything he has done for Lyon. He is a model. He has made Lyon a great club."

Lloris says that his aim for the season is shared with everyone else at Tottenham, to get as high in the Premier League as possible.
