So, Hull this weekend, anyone else nervous?
I'm more nervous this week than I was last week, as I, like probably all Villa fans expected to lose last week, the win was amazing, but now we need to win this one or last week is wasted.
Hull have 2 of their best players out. We must be high in confidence.
IF we do it 3 wins in a row, anyone remember the last time that happened?
UTV lets do it!
Afternoon all, just back from holiday. And what do I find? We beat Norwich; great, but I predict Lambert will always beat Norwich. And we had a steal of a result against Man C. Wow!!! UTV.
Some are saying we beat City but didn't play well. To me beating City is playing well. What Lambert is doing will take a long time to really hit the jackpot; teams aren't built in one season, rather several seasons. But we're going in the right direction. I'd expect the summer signings to take half a season to get going, but they're already showing something. The main thing is we're getting points on board.
Hull? Expect us to start slowly. We shouldn't, but we do. Lambert knows we shouldn't, but so far we haven't cured it. Question is, are Hull good enough to take advantage of it? On paper maybe not, but they might have a bit of luck. And Bruce is a good manager; if they do get ahead, they'll be hard (but not impossible) to break down. It'll be a tough, even negative, game, but I think we can score more than them. I'd say odds in favour of us getting a win, just. Maybe even 1-3 to us. On the other hand we might have a not really turning up game and lose 2-0; but I think those sort of games will be rare, and this isn't one of them.
who is out for Hull? If Huddlestone is out, that is a huge bonus!
I am going for a 0-1 or 0-2, we just kept a clean sheet and just maybe we will come to like doing that.
Apart from winning for all the right reasons it is nice to put one over on Potato head, I still remember him dancing on our touchline when he was the noses manager.
Onwards and upwards
I wouldn't be surprised if this finished 0-0 but Mr Potato Head does seem beat us more times than not , ! I'm going for a cheeky 0-1 with Gabby getting off the mark !
Team line-up: Guzan, Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, El Ahmadi, Westwood, Weimann, Luna, Delph, Agbonlahor, Kozak. Subs: Steer, Herd, Baker, Bennett, Bowery, Tonev, Sylla.
Westwood, Gabby back in, Baker and Sylla out. Baker is out presumably because PL has dropped from 3 to 2 centre backs.
0-0. At least we kept a clean sheet! Maybe a predictable game. Hull also had a clean sheet and it seems that was their main objective. Can't blame Bruce; points count and Hull need all the ones they can get.
Very drab match. Hull were very well structured in their defence, admittedly it wasn't hard as neither Gabby Weimann nor Kozak offered much movement when we tried to build attacks, be it to come deep and collect the ball or stretch the play by pushing wide and dropping in behind. Still, a clean sheet and unbeaten in 3 games now.
Not convinced by Tonev's ability to be a success though. Just seems to lose the ball any which way he plays, either shooting wastefully or dribbling for too long and not passing.
Anyone know where Lowton was? Or has he fallen foul completely of Lambert?
Don't know, but have the impression he hasn't hit last season's form, so maybe he has some problem or other.
Yeah with Bacuna doing a good job and Lowton not having performed at the same heights as last season he's obviously not playing. I think I'd be dropping Weimann though for Bacuna for a game or two. Or at least trying Lowton and Bacuna on the right hand side. Especially if we come up against a team with a strong left side attack as defensively we'd be pretty solid. I know Lambert won't though.
I don't think it's a case of fallen foul like that of Ireland and Hutton etc. Maybe he's just not used to the competition and having to now fight for a place.
