Watched the England v Montenegro game last night. One of our more positive performances. Had myself wondering, in view of comments that some of our players are on the verge of breaking into the squad, do we have any eligible players who deserve to displace any of those on view? I don't think so.
I think Gabby ought to be in the squad as he's a useful option to have, and he has the maturity and experience. But the likes of Delph, Westwood and Lowton need to move up a gear, maybe two gears. It'll be interesting to see where they are in 3 to 4 years time, but I think it'll take that long for them to be in a position to challenge for a place. I think they're all capable of making that advance, but it'll take time.
The one exception is Bent (still one of our players, believe it or not!). I'm not convinced by Sturridge, who I think, at the moment at least, is a one-dimensional player. When he's in the box with a player in front of him he just blasts away hopefully. There were a couple of instances last night where I think Bent, in the same position, would have had a good chance of burying it; finding a way around the player is the sort of thing Bent does.
What do you think?
Delph should have been brought in when Wilshere got injured. Instead Hodgson brought in Sterling, who has played f all.
I think that Bent has been very unlucky first not to Lamberts taste then out of the team so not picked for England.
I am a fan of Bent and he should be in the England team because he will score goals am not sure about the others you mention certainly Westy and Lowton are not ready, maybe Delph but he lets himself down with the odd rash tackle.
Overall I have given up on the England team its uninteresting watching has beens like Gerrard and Lampard both of whom played a fairly poor role on Friday and the hopefuls who play for either Manu or L'pool.
Bring back the Prem NOW.
Yep. These interruptions to the season are hard to take. Looking forwards to the Spurs game. Should be interesting. They'll want to repeat their cup victory. Lambo will have other ideas.
We have a fairly tough run of games coming up now as well, though in fairness we did alright with our tough start to the season, so it should be grand! Cant see us beating Spurs though, sadly, as they have had a nice rest....
we have 6 games between now and the end of November and I hope that we can get 10/12 points from those games which will set us up nicely.
Onwards and Upwards
We've only Spurs and MU of the top teams to face in this half of the season. If we can keep on churning out positive performances there's plenty of good results we can get from the other teams.
Yeah i was more talking that its all teams around us - those that will think they can beat us. Going by the evidence of this season so far, we play crap against those teams and then very well against the so called better, or top, teams.
So by my book, we will get 4 points of Man U and Spurs and then do woeful in the rest of the matches :-(
