The Italian media has speculated that Juventus striker Alessandro Matri and Arsenal’s Bacray Sagna could be involved in a swap deal in the next transfer window. The Italian forward has fallen out of favour with the Serie A club this season and only last month was linked with a move to Arsenal by The Express.
Tuttomercato today say that the Turin club are in the hunt for a new defender and could use Matri in exchange. The club are looking to strengthen in defence after Lucio terminated his contract this week and returned to Brazil. Arsene Wenger was linked with Matri by The Express and others just a few weeks ago and the newspaper said the Frenchman wanted to add both him and Huntelaar.
Matri, 28, was also thrown into the rumour mill with other English clubs but the moves seemed unlikely compared to other players being targeted.
The original Matri to Arsenal story today started in Tuttosport this morning but it's Tuttomercato who have added the possibility of Sagna going the other way. The Italian press have loved a Sagna rumour over the past few months and it's been reported in different forms by the majority of their sporting press including Calciomercato. Given Matri's fall from grace at Juventus, from a regular starter to a bit part player in months, it's only natural that his future will be the subject of speculation. He scored for the team last night but going off his season so far it will be little indication of a prolonged run in the team.
We reckon these rumours are all based on purely speculation and wouldn't expect it to go anywhere, perhaps similar to the Mexes and Bendtner swap rumours which surfaced last August.
