Sami Khedira is keen on talks with Jose Mourinho about a move to Chelsea during the January transfer window. The German midfielder has set his mind on 'swapping the Bernabeu for London' so say the Daily Star, but they claim it's according to sources to Spain.
There's nothing mainstream in the Spanish media from the last few days and the only reporting the Daily Star look to have taken their lead from is Spanish gossip merchants Fichajes. They love any rumour, true or otherwise, and they said yesterday that Khedira was thinking about an exit and Chelsea was a possible destination with the club considering putting in a €40m bid during the Janaury transfer window Fichajes don't go much further and it sounds like speculation based on recent events.
It's fair that both outlets would be speculating given Khedira's recent comments about his Real Madrid situation The midfielder was one of the players who openly questioned the sale of Mesut Ozil to Arsenal and explained more recently that he'll never be loved by the Real Madrid friendly press because he isn't Spanish and is considered one of the players who got on best with Mourinho.
A couple of the Spanish newspapers best informed on Real Madrid said that those comments could prove the end of his career with the club but his importance for Real Madrid has continued to grow under Carlo Ancelotti and he's been starting most games this season. However, his contract ends in June 2015 and Real Madrid would certainly not want to lose him for nothing.
If the club make moves to keep him happy, like a big new contract, then he'll likely stay but Florentino Perez won't have been happy with Khedira's recent comments and there were rumours about a possible sale back in the summer. It's all up in the air and whilst reporting on Chelsea may be several steps ahead of reality, the possibility of Khedira moving is certainly worth discussion.
