Serie A side Empoli are the latest club to show an interest in Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci. The 26-year-old has been linked with a return to his home country in recent weeks, with a number of Italian sides monitoring his situation.
Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio has claimed Empoli are keen to sign Bellusci in the summer transfer window, after their star defender Lorenzo Tonelli recently joined Napoli.
The Tuscan club have identified the Leeds United star as the ideal defender to replace Tonelli, and are now hoping to enter into talks with Massimo Cellino. Empoli consolidated their place in Serie A last season, and despite losing Tonelli they will be hoping to improve on their 10th position in the next campaign.
There has been speculation on the future of Bellusci at Leeds United following his disappointing end to last season, which saw him dropped to the bench by Steve Evans.
Sampdoria, Bologna and Torino have all been linked with the central defender, along with his former club Ascoli. Bellusci last month held talks with Ascoli, but they could now struggle to land the player given Serie A clubs are taking a keen interest.
