Liverpool had an official at the match between Real Sociedad and Barcelona this week, which Luis Enrique's side won to push themselves closer to the league title. Real Madrid's draw against Valencia means the league is now even more in Barcelona's hands and it would be something of a surprise if they managed to mess it up from here. Liverpool over the next couple will subsequently be linked with almost every player who was on show but the earliest, and therefore perhaps most reliable reports, have stated that the target was Inigo Martinez.
The Real Sociedad central defender is very highly rated in Spain and has over the past couple of years been linked with moves to some of Europe's biggest clubs, both inside Spanish football and outside. The 23 year old has already grown into a symbol of his team and despite being quite young he's already played well over 100 for Real Sociedad, and also made his first appearance for the Spanish national side.
Spanish journalist Kike Marin has revealed that Liverpool had an official present at the game for Martinez. Real Sociedad have a €30m buyout clause on the player and if Liverpool were to complete a deal it would be considered something of a coup. Clubs don't send officials on random trips at this time of year so Liverpool will have a strong level of interest and be pursuing the player seriously ahead of the transfer window opening. Italy's Calciomercato also reported the trip and will to sign Martinez.
