Federico Macheda has become the forgotten man at Manchester United. A glittering start to his first team career at the club has long been forgotten and it's now more than three years ago since he burst onto the scene with a brilliant and crucial goal against Aston Villa. At the time the hype machine went into overdrive but a combination of injuries and him not really showing enough has seen his career stall.
Loan moves to Sampdroia and QPR didn't work out for him and he now finds himself stuck at Manchester United with little chance of breaking into the first team at any point in the foreseeable future. When supporters talk about striking talent at the club, Macheda is often left out of the equation and even though he's still at the club there are few who believe he has a serious future with Manchester United.
Macheda's agent agrees and has told TMW in Italy that it's time for the player to move on and he also sounds a bit frustrated that Manchester United kept him in the summer rather than letting him take advantage of offers which came in. Giovanni Bia said "Manchester has some phenomenal forward players and to carve out a space is really difficult for Federico.
"He wants to play and if he can not do that by January we will try to find an alternative solution. I'll talk to the manager in the next few days, [Macheda] was required by German and Spanish teams during the latter part of the summer transfer market, but the British club chose to keep him.
"Hopefully they understand the situation and let him leave in January because it makes no sense to keep him on the bench at the age of 21."
That could just about confirm that Federico Macheda will be leaving Manchester United and probably England in January and if not then, then in the summer transfer window.
Whatever happens, there are few Manchester United supporters who will ever forget this...
