Manchester United given huge boost in £60m pursuit, player keen on move too

As much as the Edinson Cavani links to Manchester United have been odd, they've been persistent too and a lot of it has developed from the feeling in France that the Uruguayan international hasn't settled and isn't happy.

The Independent were one of several UK newspapers to claim in April that Manchester United were considering a £60m move for the player. Whilst Cavani's perceived unhappiness was repeatedly reported, it was thought that PSG wouldn't be willing sellers.

Things have changed.

L'Equipe were first with the PSG FFP punishment breakdown on Tuesday and they explained that it means players who the club previously weren't keen to sell are now very much being considered as ways to cash in. Edinson Cavani was named chief among them.

It's not that PSG need money to keep the electricity on, but if they want to allow Laurent Blanc to spend big this summer then they need to raise much of the money through sales, and Cavani is thought to be the most valuable player.

Given the rumours about his state of mind in Paris and the reports of Manchester United interest; it makes sense for PSG to explore the situation.

An Eden Hazard and Cavani swap was also mentioned, but that was simply taking the speculation further. So, if Manchester United are interested in a big move for Cavani, as so often reported, they'll find a player and a club willing to listen.

The 24 year old plays mainly as a central defender but is also able to play at left back, meaning he'd bring much needed strength to the Liverpool squad. Especially if they sell one of their senior defenders this summer, such as Daniel Agger.

LEGAL ACTION THREATENED OVER PAULINHO TRANSFER

Brazilian football can get very complicated when it comes to transfers. The best example of this is probably Neymar's transfer to Barcelona last summer.
