Manchester United have reportedly made an offer for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, according to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. The 21-year-old is having a great debut season for the club and has been attracting the interest of several European giants.
Most of Aftonbladet’s article is actually about a story from CalcioMercato, which said that Juventus, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United would all be after the Swedish defender.
However, Aftonbladet claims that their Portuguese sources have the information that Manchester United have submitted an offer of SEK 250 million (around £20.5m). Victor Lindelof’s contract with Benfica runs until 2020, and he has a €30m (£23m) release clause.
Aftonbladet are one of the biggest newspapers in Scandinavia and they love a transfer story. In January, Lindelof got very close to signing a loan deal with Middlesbrough, but he stayed at Benfica and his good end of season might end up meaning a quite good sale for the Portuguese club.
Manchester United have repeatedly been scouting Benfica in recent months, with the intended target thought to be Renato Sanches, maybe Lindelhof caught the eye too.
Big thanks to @FutboletRed for the heads up.
