Player left out of squad as Arsenal rumours rise, club need to pay up

Here we go again folks. It's Kostas Manolas again and this time the Greek defender has been left out of Olympiacos' Super League opener this evening against Niki Volou. That's right, LEFT OUT of the squad. Transfer imminent? Well...

The only newspaper to make even the slightest thing of that situation though is Sentra Goal, who say boss Michel has chosen to leave the defender out because he is currently 'on the outside.' This would roughly translate as, his head is not right. Understandable given the player wants the move but Olympiacos are playing hardball with Arsenal over a fee. Again, this is understandable because Olympiacos have just sold star central midfielder Andreas Samaris to Benfica for €10m. That is a big fee for the Greek champions and puts them under no pressure financially to sell Manolas.

On the same morning the news broke Manolas would be out of the Olympiacos squad, have run a story, from 'well-connected' at Arsenal journalist Wayne Veysey, claiming the Greek defender's representatives are in London and in fresh talks with Arsenal about an £8 million move. The problem being, yet again, the English press are undervaluing what Olympiacos want for their man. And, given that Goal have previously said the player was in London for a medical, which wasn't the case, it's not so concrete.

Nothing has changed in Greece and at least £12m is going to be needed from Arsenal to prise Manolas away. The Goal article even suggests Olympiacos are willing to accept less than £8 million if Arsenal are willing to pay the whole lot up front. Again, this can't be entirely accurate because Olympiacos would be hard-pressed to accept £8m up front let alone less than that.

Overall, this deal still has a lot of ironing out to be competed. Manolas has not yet thrown his toys out of the pram but with his head not right and Olympiacos seemingly happy to be at the negotiating table, it may only be a matter of time before Manolas is a Gunner.

Only thing, it'll cost more than £8m.

'well-connected' at Arsenal journalist Wayne Veysey.

Well connected?  what a joke produces through Vesey 99% of the fairy story's surrounding Arsenal FC.

Rob it puts it as 'well-connected' and then goes on to slate Goal twice. Preaching to the converted?
