There are reports in Italy that Lazio midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez is on the verge of leaving the Serie A side for the Premier League. It has been claimed that Queens Park Rangers are the latest club to be linked with the player.
TMW have reported on claims in the Italian press that QPR have been monitoring the situation with Gonzalez and his time at the club looks to be coming to an end. The Uruguayan has had to take time of this week because of family problems and therefore hasn’t been training with the Sere A club for the past couple of days. It has been revealed that Lazio are keen to listen to offers for Gonzalez with his likely destination being England.
Lazio want to bring in players before the season starts but they need to offload some squad members before they can do this. They have already targeted Partizan Belgrade defender Vojislav Stanković and it is likely that Gonzalez will be one of those players to move on so that the Serbian international can join the Italian club.
The Premier League side with a number of other clubs are weighing up whether to sign the player. He played in all four of Uruguay’s matches during the World Cup this summer including the defeat his country inflicted on England which saw Roy Hodgson’s men dumped out of the tournament.
Gonzalez comes with a plenty of experience after representing his country 47 times since making his debut in 2006. The 29 year old has played in Serie A for Lazio for the past four seasons.
