There are reports in the Italian media that Juventus are the latest side to join the race to sign FC Porto defender Rolando. The Portugal intentional has been linked with a move away the Porto in the January transfer window with a number of Serie A sides chasing him. Queens Park Rangers are also looking to bring in the player but they will face strong competition from the Italian sides.
TMW have reported in the last few hours that Juventus are monitoring the situation with Rolando. It seems his days are numbered at Porto and has become surplus to requirements at the club. This has resulted in the likes of AS Roma and Inter Milan taking an interest in a player with experience playing in Italy. The player has had loan spells in the last couple of seasons in Italy with Napoli and Inter Milan so Juventus wouldn’t be taking too much of a risk. The Juventus management want to strengthen in defence in the January transfer window and see Rolando as an ideal candidate.
In October Portuguese newspaper Record reported on claims in the British press that QPR were looking to land Rolando when the transfer window reopens in the New Year. It was claimed at the time that manager Harry Redknapp was concerned with the performances of veteran Rio Ferdinand since arriving from Manchester United in the summer and wanted to replace him with the Porto defender. His current club are keen to sell but QPR will face stiff opposition to bring him to England. Only last week Roma showed their intentions to sign the player and now the Italian champions want to hold talks with Porto over the player.
