Dutch journalist Tom Egbers was at Stamford Bridge last night covering Chelsea's match against PSG for TV in Holland. Whilst there he was asked to talk about whether Louis van Gaal would be taking up a job at Tottenham when Tim Sherwood is pushed out in the summer. Van Gaal has openly flirted with the job, at times sounding a little too keen considering he has a World Cup ton concentrate on, and is odds on with every major bookmaker.
Van Gaal has said that managing in the Premier League will complete his career, and Tottenham isn't the only job he's been linked to. The pressure on David Moyes has eased slightly but a Champions League exit would refocus the spotlight on Manchester United's season and questions about the manager's future would be almost immediate. Van Gaal has been linked with the position and has a good relationship with Robin van Persie, his national team captain.
The pair were seen watching a match between Vitesse and Ajax at the weekend, which led to further speculation. Tom Egbers is reported in Holland as saying that Van Persie has told Van Gaal he'd like him at Manchester United and to consider that before taking the Tottenham job.
Manchester United have been playing much better without the Dutch striker, it's allowed Juan Mata to shine more in a number ten role and created fluidity with the attack. If the rumours are correct, it could be that Van Persie is just as concerned about his own future as he is about Van Gaal's.
