Leeds United have been handed a boost bringing in Ascoli sporting director Francesco Marroccu after claims in Italy the Serie B side are lining up Cristiano Giaretta to replace him. Marroccu has been linked with the Leeds United sporting director job in recent weeks.
Ascoli news have today revealed Giatetta is the latest sporting director to be considered by the Ascoli leaders to replace Marroccu. Giatetta recently left Udinese, with reports Watford’s Nicola Salerno will be installed as the new sporting director of the Serie A side by the Pozzo family.
Salerno has only been with Watford as their overseas consultant for 12 months, and previously worked under Massimo Cellino at Leeds United. The Pozzo family own both Watford and Udinese so the move would be no surprise.
Marroccu held meetings with the president of Ascoli last week, and he will learn his fate this week. Marroccu is expected to leave Ascoli, and the Italian has been linked with a Cellino reunion at Leeds United. Cellino had tried to bring in Marroccu last summer before he headed to Ascoli, and is still keen to bring in his former Cagliari sporting director.
Italian sporting director rumours seem to overshadow the players sometimes.
