Shock as Di Maria left out of Real Madrid squad, Manchester United most likely destination

Way back in 2013, Cadena Cope were the first media outlet in Spain to cover Manchester United interest in Ander Herrera. That particular transfer took some time to go through, but it did, and this summer Cadena Cope have been covering interest from Old Trafford in Angel Di Maria.

In July, when everyone on planet media thought Di Maria to PSG was done, Cadena Cope said Manchester United were still in the running and a transfer to France wasn't as advanced as the general consensus said it was.

On Friday they have stated that Angel di Maria has been left out of Real Madrid's squad for the second leg against Atletico Madrid. That's a big shock, Di Maria was Real Madrid's best player when he came on against Atletico on Tuesday and that prompted Diego Simeone to label him the world's best. It also prompted many reports in Spain covering how good Di Maria actually is and what a shame it would be for Real Madrid to let him.

It was like an awakening, the obvious was finally being considered.

Cadena Cope say Di Maria's most likely destination is Manchester United, and they don't mention PSG this time around. There is no doubt that the French club would like the player and on Thursday Laurent Blanc didn't fully rule out a move but said it would be very difficult to pull off.

Spanish newspaper AS covered Di Maria's wage woes on Friday. They explained that when he signed he was convinced to do so on a relatively low wage, with promises that he'd eventually get much more. Then he saw Mesut Ozil come in on much more money and his own wage 'only' increased to €3.5m after tax, which doesn't put him in the Spanish club's top ten earners.

For reasons only he knows, Florentino Perez hasn't been prepared to bend to Di Maria's demands and that led to the player asking for a transfer, as confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti this week.

Real Madrid's official website has Di maria in the 22 for tonight, Cadena Cope could mean he's not in the squad taking part; the starting eleven or substitute. All will be clearer on Friday night.
