If the Spanish press are right on this we could be seeing the most drawn out transfer of the summer coming to an end soon. AS claim that after Real Madrid threatened to pull out of negotiations last week, frustrated with the high price being asked, Tottenham came back to the negotiating table and the two sides have agreed a price, allowing the transfer to go ahead soon.
The claim would fit in with stories in both the Spanish and English press about a meeting being called over the past few days and the amount, €32m, shows a slight compromise from Real Madrid who had refused to go over €30m previously.
AS say that Tottenham have asked for time before a transfer is announced because they want to have signed a replacement for Modric or at least got far in negotiations to do so. They reckon this will mean the deal can't be announced for a few days but that unless there's a change of heart somewhere, the transfer is almost complete.
Personal terms were agreed some weeks ago, which seems an unwelcome normality in modern football, ignoring any rules in place to prevent clubs unsettling players from other teams.
If the Spanish press have called this right then Real Madrid appear to have won on the transfer fee front, but it also gives Spurs time to get a replacement which is probably more valuable than an extra €4-6m.
