After Arsenal decided they'd quite like to buy Jamie Vardy, the Portuguese press said Leicester City would go for Sporting Lisbon's Islam Slimani as a replacement for the English striker.
Now, Sporting are reportedly doing the same. Wednesday’s edition of Jornal de Notícias says the Lions are looking for a striker since they consider Slimani’s departure to be imminent.
According to Jornal de Notícias, Sporting are already making approaches for strikers, and they’d like to spend up to €5m. Replacing a €30m striker on a budget of up yo €5m doesn't sound fan pleasing, but such is the way in Portuguese football.
Islam Slimani has a €30m release clause which expires in June 30. After that date, clubs must negotiate the value directly with Sporting.
Besides Leicester, Jornal de Notícias mentions Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid as the other clubs who are interested in the Algerian striker.
