Prior to the weekend starting the big match to look forward to for most was Chelsea versus Liverpool and all the associated attention of the Fernando Torres saga.
However, after yesterday's remarkable day these two teams will have to produce a cracker to avoid the match just being a footbote to a weekend that will live long in the memory.
Liverpool will go into the game encouraged by Sunderland's defeat to Stoke and knowing that a win will see them rise into sixth. Not dizzy heights for Liverpool but given the start to the season it would be a relief to many supporters.
They'll be brimming with confidence coming off the back of a good run of three straight victories. The players probably won't feel as let down by Torres as some supporters but the surrounding hype will add a little fire to a Liverpool side lacking passion overall this year.
Chelsea were practically handed the Premier League trophy after their storming start to the season. However the weaknesses of a squad losing several players in the summer started to show. The much hyped youngsters haven't really made the break through and it's still the same players Chelsea are reliant upon.
This has been addressed by the club during the January transfer window with the absolutely massive signing of Fernando Torres. How he links with Drogba and how Drogba feels about the whole situation could prove the key to the rest of Chelsea's season.
The signing of Luiz has had little attention but he has long been mentioned as one of Europe's most promising defensive talents. Defending in the Portuguese league and Premier League are two different worlds and he'll want to settle down as quickly as possible.
The early game sees West Ham take on Birmingham City in a relegation six pointer that neither would have anticipated before the season. Avram Grant has got West Ham playing some nice football and they'll be keen to continue this at home against Birmingham.
A win for either will see them climb out of the bottom three. For Birmingham this would enable them to breathe slightly easier given the games they have in hand over their closest rivals.
I'm trying to forget it! Don't want an invasion of angry Glaswegians ripping eachother to shreds.
Really looking forward to the Chelsea game. I have a feeling it will be 2-2 and an aggressive game, perhaps a red card.
na 5-0 to chelsea torres hat-trick and drogba for 2 ;) (i can hope!)
i think chelsea will win 2or3-1
it adds up!he wants to go back to the prem!
west brom need to defend and hes the master of 1-0 wins!
It's such a pity this wasn't at Anfield.
I think Chelsea will win 2-0 as I think they'll be wanting to make a bit of a statement and I'd imagine they still think of themselves being in the title race.
I hope I'm wrong though and Liverpool get a surprise win. Hopefully you're on a roll with your predictions TCIR.
Really impressed with Liverpool in the first half.
Can't believe that Rodriguez hit the bar from about 3 yards out.
Suarez to come on and score the winner.
Ha, there's destiny for you, off you go wee man.
And a goal for meireles......
