Sunderland and Watford could be set for transfer talks, new manager the spur

Emanuele Giaccherini was sent on loan to Bologna at the start of the season, and has enjoyed a good season at the Serie A club. The player still has another year left on his Sunderland contract, but several sides in Italy and England are keen on signing him in the summer.

Earlier, his agent confirmed even Sunderland want him back, and had sent scouts to watch him during his loan spell, but there remains a good feeling between Bologna and Giaccherini. The Italian international and his agent have spoken multiple times about a Bologna stay but other possibilities are now coming into view.

According to an exclusive on Italian website, Watford could be interested in signing Giaccherini in the summer, after the arrival of Walter Mazzarri. Calciomercato reckon the Italian international could be available for €2m, but Watford have to beat competition from Italian sides Bologna, Lazio, and Fiorentina.

It is reported that no negotiations have taken place at the moment, and everything is on hold, but things are expected to be more clear by the end of May.
