Manchester United winger Nani has made it into UEFA’s Champions League team of the week for his performance for Sporting Lisbon against Maribor. The Portuguese club beat the Slovenians side 3-1 and Nani was on the score sheet again. The Manchester United star is currently on a seasons loan spell with his former club.
UEFA.com have selected the Portugal intentional for his impressive display during the Champions League clash with Maribor and was therefore named as the best right winger in Europe for the mid week games. Nani has scored some vital goals for Sporting Lisbon this season and he scored the all important second goal to set up the win for his team. UEFA.com said they selected the player because he was the central figure on the nigh for Sporting Lisbon and was a constant menace.
“The central figure against NK Maribor, the Sporting winger was a constant menace, scoring one and making another; he had a total of seven shots on goal as the Lisbon club secured three vital points,” said UEFA.com on the Manchester United player.
Nani returned to Portugal in the summer as part of the Marcus Rojo deal and he has rediscovered the form that prompted Manchester United to sign him in 2007. He has been the stand out player for his team and in the Portuguese league which has led to speculation he will be returning to the club in January. Nani himself has recently spoken about returning to England but Sporting Lisbon have been quick to play this down. The Portuguese giants have said there is no clause in the deal for Nani to return in the year and therefore it looks like he will see out the season in Portugal.
