Tottenham move ahead of Manchester United in bid to secure Belgian wonder kid

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United would like to grow their Belgian contingents as the country continues to be the new fashion in European football, with good reason. Belgium are producing players of the very highest level all over the pitch and English clubs are now looking to get the next Vincent Kompany or Eden Hazard before the players get to the stage where there'll cost a fortune.

Manchester United already have young Adnan Januzaj and on a thoroughly miserable Saturday for David Moyes the one bright spark was him. He showed more urgency in the second half than perhaps any other Manchester United player but he was also able to create chances. His runs into the box panicked West Brom defenders and it's something which Manchester United fans would like to see more of, having become tired of watching wide players continuously cut in rather than just go for the kill.

Januzaj is not the finished article and there's much more to come from him but Manchester United are very keen to tie him to along term contract and his progress will have made Belgium more of a spotlight for the club. They've been linked with 16 year old Youri Tielemans for some time and the interest came up again recently when RTBF said Manchester United were one of a few clubs closely monitoring the player.

His current club is Anderlecht and he's already made his first team debut. At the age of 17 he's also already appeared for Belgium's U21 side which shows just how highly he's rated in the country. However, Manchester United may be frustrated on this one because yesterday The Daily Mirror reported that Tottenham were set to move ahead in the chase for the player with an offer of £1m.

Anderlecht will surely want to either keep the player, explaining to him it would help his development, or try and get as much as they possibly can. This is unlikely to be something which is resolved quickly but young Youri Tielemans would appear to have a few Premier League clubs watching him very closely.

Belgium U21 coach Johan Walem told Belgium's Sport Magazine "For me he is a real revelation. It is hard to believe that he is only 16. He has personality, always attracts the game to him and combines a youthful innocence with exceptional vision. There are a lot of good things to say about him."
