Saúl Ñíguez’s contract with Atletico Madrid only expires in 2020, but the Spanish club are still looking for a new deal to protect the player from the Premier League interest, according to AS.
The newspaper says that Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in the player. The Spurs approach is considered to be most serious, since the club have offered Saúl €6m per season, according to Radio Marca.
But Atletico are not looking forward to sell the player for less than his release clause, which currently is €45m. Saúl was considered to be close to joining Arsenal during the last transfer window, with an injury to Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago ending that pursuit, according to the claims in Spain.
We'd be surprised if Saúl did leave Atletico at this stage of his career, but it's probably worth noting that he's not a local boy, so there's no umbilical cord, and his agent is Jorge Mendes.
