The issue of Nigel De Jong is back on the agenda for Manchester United and it won't go away until the Dutchman either renews his contract with AC Milan or signs with another club. The issue is that De Jong's contract with AC Milan ends in June and he's not been in a rush to get a new one sorted out. CalcioNews24 claimed on Tuesday that AC Milan weren't so sure about handing a new deal to the player, which goes against most of the reporting which stated it was the player not keen on staying. It could be a case of AC Milan trying to let it be known they didn't fancy De Jong much anyway, and so saving face.
That face saving will obviously look a little odd if De Jong signs for Manchester United and the same outlet claim that there have been talks with the club after Louis van Gaal made it clear he wanted De Jong. CalcioNews24 say that De Jong is at the top of Van Gaal's summer shopping list, which sounds a bit top heavy at the moment. Targets are never halfway down the shopping list, they're always at the top!
We're not entirely sure on the veracity of the claims being made but a move for De Jong has been reportedly repeatedly and will be for all eternity. It makes some sense, the exits of Darren Fletcher and Anderson perhaps leave room for a squad midfielder and De Jong would be a decent addition. He's still only 30 years old and has a few years left in him.
