Who is Luiz Neto? The latest target of Tottenham, scouted last week, we introduce you...

Luiz Neto didn’t come through the ranks of the big three in Portugal but came through instead at his local club. Many top Portuguese players eventually sign for Porto, Sporting Lisbon or Benfica whether they started in the youth team or signed for them but Neto himself started off at the Varzim academy before spending five years on professional terms with the club.

Neto got his big break in 2011 when Portuguese first division club Nacional signed the young defender. It was his performances for his new club that brought him to the attention of the then Serie A side Sienna. Neto only spent one season with the Italian club but made 20 league appearances in his only season there. Sienna were relegated to Serie B in his first season and therefore he moved on again to Russian club Zenit St Petersburg.

Neto’s transfer to Sienna helped to bring him to the attention of the Portuguese national team and he made his debut early this year. He has since gone on to play three times for Portugal including their friendly against Holland last Wednesday. Neto is primarily a central defender which Tottenham Hotspur require after losing William Gallas, Steven Caulker, and Ledley King in recent months.

Portuguese newspaper Record reported a few days ago that Tottenham Hotspur are in the hunt for the Zenit defender. Record revealed Andre Villas Boas had sent scouts to watch the Portuguese international in action in Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Holland in midweek. According to reports Neto impressed during the game and managed to cancel out Manchester United’s Robin van Persie throughout the match. Inter Milan were also in attendance at the game as they too are keen on the 25 year old, but the current finances at the Serie A side probably dictate that they couldn't compete with Tottenham.

Neto is represented by Sbsfoot who also have Moussa Dembélé as one of their current clients, the Belgium international is the more valuable player at the agency. That Dembélé moved to Tottenham Hotspur so recently means that lines of communication between the club and Sbsfoot are no doubt still quite fresh which will help in any pursuit of Neto.

Spurs are 10/1 with William Hill to win 3-0 against Swansea City next weekend.Bet £25 Get a £25 Free Bet.

We do need to add to the CB's ... Shame though I loved the idea of having a resident Vlad
