Axel Witsel. Remember him? Tough tackling young midfielder who half of Europe wanted during his time at Benfica. He was linked with a move to Manchester United more than once and there's no doubt that Chelsea will have been thrown into the pot too, he'd quite like those rumours to start again and to have some foundation.
Despite only being 24 he's got more than 40 caps for Belgium and will be an important player for them at the World Cup next summer. He's gone off the radar quite a bit since he joined Zenit St Petersburg from Benfica in September 2012, when the main European transfer windows had already closed.
The deal was worth around £32m and represented his buyout clause, his large wages at Zenit causing strife among local players. Witsel can score goals which is a an added talent for his type of player, putting himself back on the market is bound to create interest.
Being away with Belgium and speaking to the likes of Eden Hazard and Marouane Fellaini has convinced Witsel that he wants to play in the Premier League. He's been quoted by Sport Wereld as saying "I hope for a big club. I also see my teammates playing at teams like Chelsea or Manchester United... There will come a day when one of those clubs will show interest and I can leave. My preference goes out to the Premier League. Not because half the national team is playing there, but because competition is the most watched."
