A tough away trip, walking the ball into the net and definitely not Danny Dillon

Mallaby 0-1 Maghull

Saturday 26th October 2013 kick off 3pm

The long trip to Mallaby promised many things, after last weeks annihilation of Chester Nomads. Not many were forthcoming, but the biggest promise was kept. Three valuable points.

Mallaby proved to be a very decent outfit and their league position seems to be a false one, on this showing.

If truth be told, they were the better side on the day. Plenty of possession, some decent play, but…

A ton of cliches, the downpour from hell and the prophet slips up.

Chester Nomads 0-7 Maghull

Saturday 19th October 2013

Was it written in the stars, or did the lads finally just click.

From the outset it looked promising, by half time it had eventually become a public slaughtering.

Tom Wharton started the humiliation, by missing a massive sitter inside the first five minutes. Heads were held in hands, as we could not see how Tom managed to put his effort over the bar, from so close in (don't worry, you are not alone…

A few thoughts re: Sot’on fiasco, moyes and our season as a whole

8 games in,8th in the table,8 points of the top and 11 points only grabbed is a dismal return for anyone with top 4 ambitions let alone title aspirations.Fair to say david moyes is doing a pretty bad job.

At the start of the season i didnt expect david moyes to win the league but at least challenge.its widely accepted that we're in…

Where did the lightening come from, those pesky penalties and one less trophy to polish.

Maghull 0-0 South Sefton Borough  aet  South Sefton win 5-4 on penalties

Saturday 12th October kick off 2pm

It has only gone and happened again !

Twice, within four days. Who says that lightening doesn't strike twice ?

Not a lot to write, to be perfectly honest. Other than more total dominance, more chances wasted and more annoyance coupled with a heavy heart at losing a game that had many to nil written all over it.

South Sefton came with…

The wind of change, one way traffic and a sloppy moment.

Ashville 1-0 Maghull

Wednesday  9th October

How many times will it happen, A team dominates the play, yet somehow loses !

I suppose the winning run had to come to an end at some point, but in such a fashion and to such a goal, really doesn't make sense.

Every player put in a shift last night, nobody ducked out and if there were any semblance of sense in this game, then Maghull would have a six point lead again.

I really am finding it difficult to…

Bored, a late wake up and finally taking control

Maghull 3-1 Manor Athletic

Saturday 5th October 2013 kick off 3pm

Somebody told me, that this game kicked off at 3pm on Saturday. It seemed more like 4pm.

Aside from a hotly disputed penalty to Manor, on the stroke of half time, absolutely nothing of any significance occurred. Even the penalty award was so innocuous, that it took us by surprise. But Mike Dixon was beaten and the scoreline at the interval was one nil to the lower league visitors.

Another United share offer ?

UK newspaper The Independent ran a story on the 20th September 2013, about the Glazers floating yet more share in Manchester United on the NYSE, with another £230m -£250m being the figure talked about.

At that time the official response from United was that it was twelve months since the original filing, this was merely procedure, Ed Woodward himself said that the filing was only a normal stock exchange requirement.…

Three points the hard way, subs to the rescue and a ramshackle ending.

Maghull 2 - 1 West Kirby

Saturday 28th September 2013 kick off 3pm

I feel like I am picking on the side of late. Maybe, being league leaders brings too much expectation. But Saturday really should have been a lot easier, than it turned out to be.

Then again, Lee Mullen having an Anders Limpar moment within two minutes did not help matters. What possessed him to handle the ball, only he knows, but it gave West Kirby the perfect start, as the penalty was…

David Moyes is "The Chosen One"

The accession of David Moyes to the Manchester United throne was much heralded affair, the like of which has never been seen before at Old Trafford, or any other club for that matter, then I suppose it was a rare occasion, Sir Alex retiring, the last game of the season and a full house at Old Trafford, what better way to grab all…

A stroll in the park,Jekyll and Hyde and will lessons be learned.

Waterloo GSOB 2-4 Maghull

Saturday 21st September 2013 kick off 2pm

Let's be nice shall we.

Thirty seconds in, Mikey Cummins is put through, but his shot strikes the underside of the bar and down on the wrong side of the line, for Maghull. An early warning of what was to come ! Not really, because Waterloo, themselves, had a very good opportunity to open the scoring, when the centre forward was put clean through only to strike his shot woefully wide of the mark.…

Looking comfortable, becoming sloppy, and a very painful end

Newton 0-3 Maghull

Saturday 14th September 2013 kick off 3pm

I am here to report on a football match, so I will do that.

Two great strikes from the edge of the box, from Rob Dutton, gave us a cracking start. And a tremendous platform to go on and boost the goal difference.

A run from deep, cutting in from the left and taking advantage of a moses moment in the Newton defence, Dutton struck home to open the scoring. Soon after and a move between Tom Foley…

Missing chances, our Chopper Harris and a fine revival

Vauxhall Motors Reserves 1-3 Maghull

Tuesday 10th September 2013 kick off 7.30pm

This is becoming a good habit. Five away day trips and four wins.

The boss has certainly found that winning formula. Though he did puzzle us in the second half.

Against a side who played the first half with a very high line, Maghulls normal fluent passing game was left to the back four, while the midfield were left to make hay, spraying passes over and through…

Ten men run the game, consistency and we finally score from the spot.

Upton AA 3-4 Maghull

Saturday September 7th 2013 kick off 3pm

Seven goals, a sending off, some shocking defending and puzzlement with the officials. Now how do I cram all this into two paragraphs !

Dillon, Williams 2 and Hastings scored for Maghull, some players scored three goals for Upton amidst some awful defending,Mullen sent off for Maghull and the referee could have had a better game. Three points and back level with the leaders.

There, I did…

Fitting In Bale And Ronaldo

Its official, Gareth Bale is Real Madrid’s new "no ll" a lot about this move was mostly mental (the need to sign a big player to continue Perez's Galactico era or spend ridiculous amounts to keep Madrid's ego high or maybe as a rebuttal to Barca signing Neymar), because technically speaking, there were other areas in the team that probably needed reinforcement more than the left wing where Bale has made his name, especially when you consider the fact that Real already have in their…

A shocker, a nightmare and a stinker

Maghull 1 - 3 Blacon YC

Saturday 31st August 2013 kick off 3pm

Sorry Phil, but that just about sums it up.

What began as sloppy, just deteriorated and eventually became a wish for the final whistle to get this game out of the way.

Yes some players were missing, for reasons unknown. But that is just clutching at straws, so lets get this over and done with.

The first five minutes set the pattern of the day. No cohesion, no slick passing and to…

War and peace revisited, letting them off the hook and which one is van-Persie

Hale 2-3 Maghull

Wednesday 28th August 2013 kick off 6.30pm

For those of you with the attention span of a goldfish, we won.

For everyone else, grab a beer, light a cigar, settle back and I shall continue.

What a very good game of football.

Mostly one way traffic, but as a biased reporter I am entitled to say that. I wouldn't say the first half was one sided, but I am sure I could here the Hale management shouting "no mas" (any boxing fans will know…

The officials nightmare, sloppy moments and turning things on its head.

Maghull 4-3 Cammell Lairds Reserves

Saturday 24th August 2013 kick off 3pm

Last season we had a shocking habit of gifting the opposition a two goal start, sometimes even more. Cammell Lairds away springs to mind. This season we have been a stronger outfit, but the officials decided to intervene and bring about the two goal deficit.

A full 90 minutes was asked for, after the Southport Trinity victory in midweek. We got 75, so cannot grumble. But we could…

A game of two halves, a returning son and a lack of blondes.

Maghull 2 - 1 Southport Trinity

Wednesday 21st August 2013 k/o 6.30pm

A lovely, warm evening greeted the players, amongst whom was Tom Foley, back in a Maghull shirt after his two season sabbatical at Bootle FC.

The early exchanges were pretty lame to be fair. Maghull with neat and tidy passing movements, the opposition using the more direct approach to the game, though not uneasy on the eye. But a sum total of bugger all seemed to be going…

The river of rain, playing the new boys and a real performance

South Liverpool 1 - 3 Maghull

Saturday 17th August 2013 k/o 3pm

Yep, I was late again... it was all Stoke's fault.

The pitch looked somewhat...bumpy, to say the least. I have seen less caverns in the Blue John caves, or am I just picky ?

Anyway, the first half (ok I only missed five minutes before any of you moan) seemed pretty much a replica of Wednesday nights fare. Only this time the upper hand and chances created, came from Maghull. I had…
