A cracking performance, just not our night and way too hot for football.

Maghull 1-2 AFC Liverpool

Tuesday 22nd July 2014 kick off 7.15pm

On a night that was more suited to sandy beaches, long cool drinks and faffing about in the sea. Maghull put in a really good performance, but, for the second time in four days, saw the scoreline not reflecting the match at all. And again, against higher league opposition.

AFC had slightly better of the early exchanges, but when they took then lead, it came as a bit of a surprise. They had not really threatened Maghulls goal.

As good sides do, Maghull responded. They stepped up the pace of the game, went at the visitors and deservedly got the equaliser with a stonking right foot effort from Mikey Cummins.

Other than the brisk opening by AFC, and a few rare ventures towards Maghulls box,the match was one way traffic. Good displays all round. And that fitness edge was coming back.

The post was struck, the crossbar too. Two goal line clearances came, as well as many saves and blocks. But a 1-1 draw was still a decent result against a side two levels above. The performance and fitness being the main thing at this stage of pre-season.

Fate dealt a horrible twist in the latter stages, when, a bit of a worldy, flashed past Lee Carrol and the spoils were taken by the happy visitors.
And hats off to the visiting supporters, who applauded Maghull off, at the end. They knew they had been given a game and got out of jail.
