A fiesty encounter, not much between the sides and the rookie boss.

Maghull 2-3 Burscough

Saturday 26th July 2014  kick off 3pm

Todays game was very well officiated let it be said. And good gestures made by both sets of managers.

The players seemed to get involved in a bit of a battle, that led to the substitutions of a few players that, lets say in a league game may have seen them taking an early bath.

Burscough, who are 4 levels above Maghull, started the brighter. Lots of crisp passing and good movement up front, but not a lot of end product. Shots from distance being the main threat to Maghulls goal. The home side grew into the game and imposed themselves, on the previously dominant, visitors midfield. Which then brought about a decent game of football. Albeit lacking in goal scoring opportunities.

A few changes at the break, by Maghull, seemed to break the rhythm of the side and within ten minutes of the restart, they found themselves two goals down. Poor defending as much as any good movement up front, from Burscough, to blame for both goals.

A swift response was needed and came when Ian Smith rose highest for quality inswinging corner and headed firmly into the roof of the net. Game on !

With all seats taken, for the second game running... courtesy of Bill Buck, the decent crowd now hoped for a Maghull comeback and share of the spoils.

Unfortunately, too much yapping from yours truly, missed the third goal of Burscough. Well, I can't remember it, but I recall a blunder on the edge of the box,is the actual truth. Must get back into practise for the league season.

Maghull responded yet again, by reducing the arrears with a fine finish by Danny Ricketts.

Like Tuesday, time was against Maghull and the deserved draw did not come. The fitness is there, the quality too. And the improvement of the squad, pushing for places has given a good edge. If these three games are anything to go by, the forthcoming season looks promising.

But, where are all the blondes !! Disappointing pre-season on the fan front.
This seasons theme still not sorted, but seeing as nobody got last seasons, it wont be too hard to hide.

Next game : Fleetwood Hesketh home Tuesday 29th July 2014 kick off 7.15pm (I think)
