Maghull 1 - 3 Blacon YC

Saturday 31st August 2013 kick off 3pm

Sorry Phil, but that just about sums it up.

What began as sloppy, just deteriorated and eventually became a wish for the final whistle to get this game out of the way.

Yes some players were missing, for reasons unknown. But that is just clutching at straws, so lets get this over and done with.

The first five minutes set the pattern of the day. No cohesion, no slick passing and to be fair, an opposition who defended in numbers making things difficult.

But two very poor errors brought a nothing game to life.

A lofted free kick into the box caught Ian Smith flat footed, his header went behind him and brought joy to the Blacon side. Not long after, a silly free kick was conceded five yards outside the box. The wall was set up, but the free kick found it's way through it and rippled the back of the net, leaving the keeper unsighted and helpless. Two down again and not much happened prior to half time to lift the spitits.

Maghull did start the second half a little better, not exactly creating much, but with lots more possession and forcing Blacon onto the back foot. A little bit of hope came when Tom Foley was fed, running through towards goal and lobbed the keeper for his second in as many matches.

Game on ? No. Huff and puff and not much else went on. Summed up when Maghull had possession in Blacons half. A dilly, dally moment, the ball was lost, a long ball into Maghulls half and Liam Vogel took one for the team, by tugging back the Blacon forward, who was clean through. Fortunately he had the presence to commit the foul outside the box, unfortunately, it was his second offence. Could have been a straight red, but the ref gave a second yellow and off he went.

To rub salt into the wounds, the resulting free kick, went for a corner, then another and after more dodgy defending, Blacon scored their third. Game over.

We had a great chance to reduce the arrears, but John Hastings joined the list of players struggling with one on ones with a keeper.

That summed up Maghulls day.

Forget it, don't let it happen again and move onto the next game, is all Phil could summon up after the game. It hurt, but not something to dwell on.

Next game : Upton away Saturday 7th September 2013 kick off 3pm
Be up for it lads.
