CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL CONCERNED WITH MAGHULL FOOTBALL CLUB
CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2013/14
AND HISTORY MAKERS

How, on earth, am I supposed to write about what happened yesterday !

Wax lyrical ?

I do not have the literary prowess, to do Saturday 29th March 2014 justice, for Maghull Football Club.

Heroes all round, came to the fore. From the Chairman right through to the kids teams, people came and put in a shift. Through hard bloody work and dedication to just being there and supporting the club in it's greatest hour. Just a part of the reason I fell for this club, when John Mc pestered me to come and see the side, four years ago. And why I started writing about the club two years ago.

But we have a football match to talk about.

The pattern of the game was set, within 20 seconds, when Colin McDonald stormed into a challenge that left the Ashville players knowing, Maghull where up for this. Less than a minute later, any illusions Ashville had of coming to spoil the party where shattered.Steve Williams picked the ball up in the centre circle, moved forward unopposed and cracked one past the visitors keeper and the party started. Just Google, where is Williams Drive, it says in the back of Ashvilles net (the old ones are the best)

By the time ten minutes had elapsed, the game should have been over. Two more tremendous chances were created, but went begging. Thus was the dominance Maghull brought, to this championship decider. Unfortunately, the lads then took their foot off the pedal and the rest of the half, though still in Maghulls control, faded away somewhat. The visitors, considering they had to win, never looked like it. But I will say that was because Maghull did not allow them too.

The second half carried on where the first had left off, the visitors seemingly not up for the challenge and Maghull strolling around as if waiting for the final whistle. But at the same time, it was nervy. As Greavsie used to say, it's a funny old game. And at only one nil, anything could happen.

Maghull were awarded a free kick, wide out on the left. Davie Jones said, this is one of those moments when we could do with a Gerrard and Sami Hyypia moment. We didn't need them. Our own Stevie, in Williams, curled in a cross and Colin McDonald flicked his header inside the far post. Did I say the party had started earlier ? Well, now it really did.

No way where the visitors going to come back from this. Confirmed very soon after when a cross or a corner (who really cares) was struck into the roof of the net by SWORDSY !!! Chris Swords had broken his seasons duck and celebrated like a World Cup winner, as did the rest of us.

The rout was rounded off by Paul Jackson (my hero of the day, broke my own rules there) who having been gutted to be left on the bench for this game, came on and struck home the Fourth.

The clean sheet was ruined when Ashville scored two minutes into time added on. But it was immaterial, the title was in the bag.

The final whistle brought huge celebrations from the lads and richly deserved. Danny Dillon lifted the trophy to huge cheers and that party got into full swing. All the pretty faces went for it in style (don't get the wrong idea lads, there were a few blondes around too)

A victory in the final game of the season will see Maghull having beaten each side in the league. That's why your Champions !!

Will Ben Sumner be put on pens for the end of the season ?

Now enjoy your break, until the Cup Final rehearsal.
