Injuries, tales of woe and those end of season blues.

Maghull 2 - 4 Blacon YC

Saturday 27th April 2013 kick off 3pm

Not a lot to say about Saturday.
It was one of those languid, do we really have to play this fixture, kind of affairs.

Both sides had created half chances, in a very low key first half, Blacon were just fortuitous, in that Maghulls defending was not up to scratch. And they could not believe their luck when going off at half time, three goals to the good. Maybe a one goal lead would have been a truer reflection of the first 45 minutes.

The hair dryer came out at half time and after a slow start, Maghull perked up and began to take control of the second half.

A fine effort from Dave Hughes reduced the deficit, swiftly followed by a second from Jack McDowell and we had game on. Mick McGinn brought a brilliant save out of the Blacon keeper and Jack McDowell the struck the upright, but that third goal was to be elusive.

So many games in such a short space of time, in tandem with numerous injuries had taken it's toll. It was just a fixture too far. And maybe being safe, could have brought about that oomph that was lacking, especially in the first 45 minutes.

To rub salt in the wounds, Blacon scored a fourth close to time and all hopes of snatching a draw where gone.

All that's left now, is a game against the Champions tonight.
