Is this the start of a goal drought ?

Thursday July 26

Maghull 0 Bootle 1

After being mugged on Saturday by Prescot Cables, the hope was, that the visit of Bootle from two leagues above us, would give more encouragement for the season that lies ahead.

And it did !

A very professional performance, creating chances, controlling the play and dictating possession, led us to believe that sooner or later a goal,or two, would come and confirm a deserved win.

It didn't !

Another sucker punch came fifteen minutes from time, when a long ball down the middle and deja vu from Saturday, saw a Bootle striker rush forward into acres of space to score the only goal of the game.

Granted, Bootle did play a mainly reserve side, but it was very frustrating to suffer another loss, after what was a much improved performance. Especially when we struck the bar, with what turned out to be the last attack of the game. Another galling aspect of the night, was hearing that the return of Boyley on Saturday was short lived, as he became another of the pied pipers followers, scuttling off to Ashton Town too. I can see that one ending in tears.

Still feel that their is enough potential to bring about a pretty successful season, as testing themselves against opposition from higher leagues, can only bring about the improvement needed.

South Liverpool, a revamped club, who although, are a league below us, are in a very false position and will provide a difficult challenge on Saturday. Kick off 3pm

We are the club with the best directors, facilities, bar and refreshments in the league. We now want the title to go with it. Enough of being a cup side.

A report on the game against South may be a problem... I have a prior family engagement at 3pm too. Hopefully we will get our first goal to shout about.
