The scribe becomes a ghost, change not for the good and an early cup exit

South Liverpool 4-1 Maghull

After last week's win against the odds (Mossley Hill) it was quite unfortunate that several changes had to be made, due to injury and unavailability.

South Liverpool started the brighter side, taking the initiative and in doing so, brought out a fine one handed save from Mark Mawdsley. We had a chance to take the lead, an appeal for a penalty (handball) went unheard, the ball broke loose to Jamie Robinson who dwelt too long and the chance was gone.
Within a minute we suffered for the miss. South took the lead after poor defending from a long throw. The centre forward being allowed to turn and squeeze his shot home.
The home side then took complete control and to go in, at half time, just one goal down was a blessing.

The second half brought about two changes in personnel, but no change in the pattern of play. By the mid point of the half, we had conceded twice more and a hammering looked on the cards.

We upped the pace when the home side looked happy with the scoreline, John McGuire headed home only to be denied by the linesmans flag for offside. John was not to be denied for long as he soon forced the ball home to give the scoreline some respectability.

While pressing forward to try and get something from the game, we found ourselves left open to counter attacks. After squandering two or three very good chances, we succumbed to a breakaway fourth and the game was over.
A disappointing early exit from the cup and no real excuse, when making so many changes from the previous game.

Next game : Vauxhall Motors away 26th September 2012 k.o 7.30pm
